We were asked by Safe and Caring Schools and Communities to help give them a refresh of their identity. it’s always good to get the opportunity to design a new logo and branding identity. Working with a limited budget we began working on some ideas. Our new client agreed that their existing logo resembled something that would be associated with a super hero or a local minor soccer association. Here is what the old logo looked like…
As with any new logo design the process includes the exploration of many different ideas. We presented a shortlist of these to the client along with a rationale for each. The frontrunner and eventual winner was based around the mascot for the society – a Canadian Goose. ‘Niska’ is a Cree Indian word meaning “Canada Goose” and is the name of the ‘Safe and Caring’ mascot. We thought that bringing this into the logo would help with the overall branding. The lifestyle of the Canada Goose reflects the values of ‘Safe and Caring’, they live in flocks to support one another and take care of their young. ‘Safe and Caring’ believes that youth are the responsibility of every adult in the community.

We adapted the logo for use on all their social media channels, created brochures, marketing materials and displays.

We recently completed the logo and branding design for the National Mentoring Symposium to be held in Banff on November 5 -7, 2013.
The logo represents an adult or youth and a younger child formed from a letter ‘M’ combined with the use of bright, positive colours. The logo can be used with type or without as a simple icon depending on its use.
A horizontal version was also created for use on banners and certain signage items. We will be working on all signage material, promotional posters and literature in the time leading up to the event.
This symposium will celebrate 100 years of mentoring across Canada by showcasing innovative mentoring partnerships, practices, programs and research and by setting the stage for mentoring in the future. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada (BBBSC) and The Alberta Mentoring Partnership (AMP) are working together to co-host the first ever national conference on mentoring. The event will strive to advance the unique contributions of mentoring to the well‑being of children and youth, volunteer mentors and communities across Canada by highlighting innovative partnerships, promising practices or programs and the state of the research.
